Quick Tablerunner Tutorial - Fabrics

>> Thursday, August 23, 2012

I'll put the directions for this tutorial in a couple of posts, simply because I don't have all of my photos edited yet and wanted to give you a chance to start picking out fabrics.

You will only need 2 fat quarters to make the front of the tablerunner. It finishes at 12.5 x 24.5inches. There's lots of variations on how to get the tablerunner this size out of scraps, but first we'll do the quickest way which is 2 fabrics.

Your MAIN fabric is the one that runs through the center. It should be non-directional so it looks good from all sides of the table! The three prints above are all non-directional - you can't tell which way is up. They're also all Christmas prints because you just may want to curb that Christmas stash and make gifts at the same time!

I don't think this print will make a happy tablerunner because there are people and houses on it that will be upside down to some of the guests at your table. Now, if you know you are making the runner for a side table, serving buffet, etc. a directional print will work because people will only be looking at it from one side.

Okay, so your mission is to find one non-directional print you want to use. At minimum one fat quarter.

Then you need to find another fabric that goes with it.
You could pick:
a non-directional smaller print
 a solid or
tone on tone print
an accent fabric from the same line
It needs to be at least a fat quarter too!

Happy hunting,
Sarah Vee
