Pattern Preferences - Photos or Diagrams?
>> Monday, August 24, 2015
After spending my day making another pumpkin patch block to go with my written directions, I was left wondering - does it matter to YOU?
When you're following a pattern to make a quilt,
do you prefer to have photos
that use the same colours as the quilt on the cover?
Or do you prefer well labelled diagrams?
I have a feeling I'm overthinking this - or that I'm picking my preference based on being the maker of the pattern instead of the maker of the quilt!
Please let me know in the comments if it matters to you - photos or diagrams.
With Joy,
Sarah V
p.s. your feedback will help me figure out if I'm making another copy of the directions before I release them on Wednesday! Stay tuned :)

I actually prefer diagrams. I think it's easier to say "My dark goes here, my light goes there" than to remember "her pink is really my green and her blue is my red, or was that my yellow?"
I think either way but I do think it helps if the fabrics or colors are the same as the original photo.
I really love tutorials with lots of pictures. And if each section is the same as the picture than it really is a help because then I can picture how it is all going together. Diagrams are ok also, I just insert my own colors.
LOL Hope I answered your question !
Maybe one picture with your color choice... then d
iagrams are just fine... that way I can use my own colors.
hm
Pat and Helen thanks. I was wondering when the quilters who change the colours would comment:) This is the plus I see in diagrams too - getting to colour them in my own way!
Diagrams are great to see the process.......but....I really like photos too!
Hey! I prefer photos. Diagrams are more difficult (for me) to follow. It is easy to say, she uses blue in the picture, and every time I see that blue, I will use black... or whatever. It helps me envision things better. Often, diagrams are too sterile. Hope that makes sense.
