Top 5 Books - 31 Day Blog Writing Challenge

Let's see what my Top 5 quilting books reveal about me!

In no particular order, but Pat Sloan's book is kept in a drawer of my cutting table with my sewing machine guide. So, maybe #1?

pat sloan quilting book

I love Pat Sloan's enthusiastic style and prolific happy quilts. This book is so encouraging; it has trouble shooting advice, practice stitching and projects. She has a whole series of Teach Me books!

I got this book for myself last year. I love it. I could just sit and read it all day. And then go make some blocks! I first fell in love with the history of quilt names when I started quilting and really enjoy learning and discovering blocks with Barbara's system. I follow Barbara's blog too.

applique book Jeana Kimball

I'm not sure how long ago I bought this book, some time in the last ten years. I love the Baltimore Album quilts and at one point considered making an applique quilt when I turn 50. As that birthday gets closer, I'm still considering! I know Jeana is doing a handquilting challenge right now but that won't be happening ;)

Roberta Horton book

I started quilting when I lived in southern Ontario where there are many active Mennonite quilters. I love the colors and pieced blocks. The quilting is exquisite too. So inspiring! Roberta passed away this February - here is a link to a Quilt Show episode of her home she shared with her sister.

Welsh quilt book

Last but not least, Making Welsh Quilts. This style reminds me of the Mennonite quilts. The quilting is where the magic is - an additional layer of story in the historical stitches. I would love to visit Jen Jones store full of Welsh quilts.

If you haven't joined the 31 Day Blog Writing Challenge yet, I encourage you to at least do this prompt in a post. I think you can telll that I love to design my own quilts and am inspired by past quilters.

I would love to see your top 5 books!

With Joy,

Sarah V.

  1. Thanks for the link to that video! I really enjoyed seeing Roberta and Mary home. It's fun that we both listed "Amish Adventures" as one of our favorites! I guess maybe there are two parts. Mine is about strip piecing and yours is about color?!

  2. It's nice to see how people are interpreting this prompt. I have lots of favorites and it is hard for me to choose just five.
