This summer I spent a lot of time at my sewing machine. It was my first summer in my new quilt room – more on that in another post! – and I am amazed and really happy with how well the set up works. The result is plain to see in these 3 quilts I have to share!

Dropping In

My first quilt goal this summer was to complete this Droppin In quilt top in time for the fabric release. I made it using a new Dear Stella line called Fox and Fern. It features woodland imagery with animals and plants. The line has both dark and light background fabrics which work really well in this quilt pattern. I even had enough fabric to make a bigger size than I usually do of this pattern – a twin size snuggle quilt indeed!

Secret Lives of Colours quilt

This quilt has been a work in progress for several years. All that was left was to quilt it! This was a sew a long with Pat Sloan several years ago. The pattern is her design and the colours – and title – come from a book by Kassia St. Clair called, The Secret Lives of Colours. Each block is made with a colour from the book. I took a creative leap and made my background using different Anna Maria Horner, now Parry, fabric.

As a teacher I usually ended up quilting at least one quilt in the summer months. It just works out that I have more time to focus on a project and I like to quilt on the same machine that I piece on and I don’t like to change the machine set up – even though it’s easy to do on my Pfaff! In the end it means I worked steady on this quilt and it’s finally ready for me to enjoy.

Pumpkins in Delightful Stars

My third quilt finish to share with you is an update to my Delightful Stars pattern. I wanted to join an autumn quilt pattern bundle and didn’t think any of my patterns really read as autumn. I realized I could add pumpkins to the center of the blocks in this quilt and make it an autumn quilt!

I also decided to really make it mine and use some of my Alison Glass fabrics to make it. I used 4 different fabrics to create my pumpkin blocks – including pink! I really like how it turned out – the right amount of happy. My local quilt shop owner quilted it for me on her longarm with a pantograph that has big jagged edge leaves. I think I have myself a new autumn pattern!
